How do I choose between windmill, solar and electric aeration?
It comes down to your site. Windmill aeration suits windy, off-grid locations with no power line. Solar aeration suits sunny sites that want daytime aeration without running power. Electric aeration suits sites that already have power and want continuous, controllable output. Tell us your water size, depth and conditions and we will match a system to your site.
Can I aerate a pond or dugout without electricity?
Yes. Windmill and solar aeration are designed for off-grid sites with no power line. A windmill uses wind and a solar system uses sunlight to drive aeration, so you can aerate remote dugouts and ponds where running electricity is not practical. Where you do have power, an electric system gives continuous output.
What size aeration system do I need?
The right size depends on your water body's surface area and depth and, for wind-driven systems, your typical wind conditions. How aeration works
What aeration does for your water and why bottom-up circulation matters.
How does windmill aeration work without electricity?
A windmill uses wind to drive an air compressor that pushes air down to a diffuser near the bottom of the water. The rising air circulates and oxygenates the water column with no electricity or fuel required, which is what makes it a fit for remote and off-grid sites.
Why does a pond, dugout or lagoon need aeration?
Still water tends to stratify and lose oxygen near the bottom, which lets muck and nutrients build up and can lead to odour, algae and fish kill. Aeration keeps the water moving and oxygenated from the bottom up, supports fish and beneficial bacteria, and helps prevent oxygen-related problems.
Does aeration work together with pond conditioner?
Yes. Beneficial bacteria in a pond conditioner need oxygen to stay active, so aeration and conditioning work best together. Aeration keeps oxygen in the water and the conditioner's bacteria and enzymes help break down muck and nutrients. We often recommend pairing the two.

Where should the diffuser go?
As a general guide the diffuser is placed at or near the deepest point, so the rising air circulates the whole water column. Ideal placement can vary with the shape, depth and season of your water body, so we will advise on the right setup for your site rather than a one-size-fits-all rule.
Should I run my aerator year-round?
Many operators run aeration continuously through the year, and in cold climates winter is an important time to help maintain oxygen. The right run schedule depends on your site, your goals and your climate, so ask us about your setup and we will help you plan it.
Can aeration help keep water open in winter?
Yes, in cold climates. With the appropriate cold-weather accessories and setup, aeration can help maintain an opening in the ice so the water keeps exchanging oxygen and livestock can drink. Winter operation has to be configured correctly for your climate and water body, so contact us to confirm the right cold-weather setup before freeze-up.
What if the wind doesn't blow for a while?
A dugout or pond holds its oxygen for a period, and many off-grid sites pair a windmill with a solar or electric backup to cover calm spells. Tell us about your site and typical conditions and we will help you plan for consistent aeration through low-wind periods.

How do I order or get a quote?

Can I get parts and service for an existing system?
Yes. We carry parts and accessories for Koenders windmill, solar and electric aeration and can help you service, repair or expand an existing setup. Tell us your model and site details and we will help you find the right part or plan an upgrade.
How does shipping work and how long does it take?
We ship from Canadian and US warehouses. Delivery times and freight cost vary with your location and the size of the system, and larger aeration systems often ship by freight carrier rather than parcel. Contact us with your shipping address and the system you are considering, and we will confirm current shipping options, lead times and freight costs before you order.
Is there a warranty on Koenders systems?
Yes. A limited warranty is available on Koenders aeration systems. Terms and coverage vary by product, so contact us for the current warranty terms that apply to your system before you buy.

Is aeration safe for fish and the pond ecosystem?
Yes. Aeration simply adds oxygen and circulation to the water, which benefits fish, beneficial bacteria and the overall health of your water. When a system is introduced gradually and set up correctly for your site, it supports a healthier, more balanced pond.
Are the pond conditioners you offer safe for fish and animals?
The pond conditioners we offer are bio-based, built on beneficial bacteria and enzymes rather than harsh chemicals, and are formulated to be safe for fish, livestock and wildlife when used as directed. Always follow the current product label for dose and handling.
